STARS AWARD FOR ST MARY'S
This week we have been notified that Transport for London (TfL) have approved St Mary’s STARS Gold application. This is a fantastic achievement and contributes to reducing congestion, improving road safety and improving health and wellbeing.
Special mention must go to the Junior Travel Ambassadors led by Miss Hogan and Mrs Whitewood.
STARS is a scheme that inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling.
Last year our school participated in Walk on Wednesdays (WOW) which encouraged all children to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling. The theme for this year is the Seasons and each child has the opportunity to collect 11 badges all based on this theme. All we ask you to do is work towards walking more to school. This has many benefits for everyone’s health, wellbeing and for the environment.
Every week, the class teacher will log how the children came to school and at the end of each month, the badges will be distributed to those who have walked/actively travelled in that given month.
We understand that everyone may not be able to walk the full distance to school. Park and stride (parking a short distance away from the school and walking the rest of the way) gives children the opportunity to walk to school too. There are lots of options.
We hope you enjoy walking to school
