About Our Year Group
Welcome to St Mary’s Nursery. We aim to provide the best possible start your child could have to their school life. Each child is seen as unique with individual talents that we endeavour to develop during their time at the Nursery. We place a strong emphasis on learning through purposeful play and interacting with others in order to develop social skills. The children encounter a team of Nursery staff, all of whom work closely with them to support and extend their learning. We promote turn taking, sharing, being kind to each other and aim to develop skills that encourage a positive disposition to learn. We view outside as a key part of our learning environment. It is an extension of our indoor classroom and as such used widely by the children throughout their time in the Nursery.
Nursery staff: Miss McCann - Nursery Teacher

Our Year Group Galleries
The nursery children visited the Life Bus this week. We learnt about how to look after ourselves and keep ourselves clean. We learnt about how to stay healthy and looked at different parts of our body and what they do.
People who help us
As part of our new topic we have been learning about people who help us. We changed our role play area into a hospital, fire station and a police station. We thought about how people who help us keep us safe and about how we could help to keep ourselves safe. We completed risk assessments of our inside, outside and nature area. We created vehicles that people who help us use to travel in as well as linking this topic to every area of our learning.
Christmas and the Nativity
We have had lots of fun in the nursery in the lead up to Christmas we have been wrapping presents, enjoying our Christmas party and turned our role play area into a Nativity scene.
Our New Grass!
The nursery were very lucky to have the PA fund some new artificial grass for our outside area. We have loved watching it being installed and can't wait to have lots of fun on it!
The Environmental Centre
As part of our Autumn topic we visited the Environmental Centre. We looked at how the world around us is changing thinking about the weather, leaves and the trees. We met looked at lots of animals and hid pine cones like squirrels! We walked along the fairy toadstools to the magical treehouse and got very muddy!
Visitors to our nursery
We have had lots of visitors to our nursery this term. During book week we were visited by lots of famous authors and illustrators. We have also had visits from the police and a local dentist to talk to us about how to keep ourselves safe as well as keeping our teeth and mouths healthy.
As part of our topic in RE 'God's World' we visited our nature area and looked at all of the beautiful things in God's world. We thought about how we have to look after the world that God has given us and picked up some litter that had been dropped around the school. We also visited the nature area as part of our Autumn topic and collected materials to make into collages as well as collecting a certain number for materials for our number hunt.
Construction in Nursery
This term we have been thinking about our building skills from designing a stable to a cinema the children have chosen a design, planned this on paper and then built this. The introduction of our new gravel pit has also helped the children to build upon these construction skills.
Cooking in the Nursery
As part of our learning about the Rainbow Fish we baked our own fish biscuits. We used the school's new kitchen to cook these and thought about how to measure and mix ingredients as well as decorating these to represent our own shiny scales - what makes us special.
A day in our Nursery
Everyday in Nursery is always different. We are always looking for learning in all that we do, as well as having fun along the way! We enjoy a range of activities and working together with our friends to solve any challenges we come up against!
