About Our Year Group
Welcome to St Mary’s Nursery. We aim to provide the best possible start your child could have to their school life. Each child is seen as unique with individual talents that we endeavour to develop during their time at the Nursery. We place a strong emphasis on learning through purposeful play and interacting with others in order to develop social skills. The children encounter a team of Nursery staff, all of whom work closely with them to support and extend their learning. We promote turn taking, sharing, being kind to each other and aim to develop skills that encourage a positive disposition to learn. We view outside as a key part of our learning environment. It is an extension of our indoor classroom and as such used widely by the children throughout their time in the Nursery.
Nursery staff: Miss McCann - Nursery Teacher

As part of our RE topic we have been learning about New Life. We have thought about how Jesus was given new life at Easter and how we see new life all around us.
In the Nursery we have been celebrating Easter through learning about the Easter story and making lots of Easter arts and crafts as well as some Easter cooking! We enjoyed the Easter egg hunt at the end of term too!
As part of our Palm Sunday celebrations Father John visited the Nursery and read us the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem. We then celebrated this by doing our own palm procession with palm leaves outside singing Hosanna.
During our growing topic we first thought about how we grow and change from babies and how animals grow and change as well. Then we went on to learning about what plants need to grow and planted our own seeds. We also drew pictures of plants and experimented with seeds and soil.
We learnt all about what keeps us healthy including: Getting lots of sleep, drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit and vegetables, keeping clean and exercising. We explored these foods, took part in different exercises and made our own fruit salads!
In the Nursery we have loved learning in the snow! We were able to talk about the texture, count our footprint, make marks and even built a snowman! Although it was cold it was so much fun!
As part of Science day we carried out a range of experiments. We created 'dancing raisins', an erupting volcano and our own lava lamp! We talked about why we thought things happened and made predictions about what we thought might happen next.
Chinese New Year
We learnt about Chinese New Year and carried out activities based around this.
The nursery children visited the Life Bus this week. We learnt about how to look after ourselves and keep ourselves clean. We learnt about how to stay healthy and looked at different parts of our body and what they do.
People who help us
As part of our new topic we have been learning about people who help us. We changed our role play area into a hospital, fire station and a police station. We thought about how people who help us keep us safe and about how we could help to keep ourselves safe. We completed risk assessments of our inside, outside and nature area. We created vehicles that people who help us use to travel in as well as linking this topic to every area of our learning.
