Magic Lantern Art and History Workshop
Magic Lantern art/history workshop visited Year 2 today. The children took part in an interactive work shop which included works of art linked to The Great Fire of London. This was a great opportunity for children to share their existing knowledge and build upon it in a fun and exciting learning environment.
The Great Fire of London - October 2019
Freshwater Theatre came to visit year 2 for a drama workshop all about The Great Fire of London in 1666.
Y5 Royal Observatory Greenwich
Linking with our Science topic on The Solar System, we travelled to the Royal Observatory to explore the museum, take part in a workshop and watch a planetarium show.
As part of our food technology curriculum, Year 2 have been chopping and roasting vegetables. We weighed the vegetables during our maths lesson.
Jameson’s mummy visited our school today and told us all about Africa, where she was born. She told us about different types of exotic fruits that are grown there as well as other kinds of foods that are eaten. She brought us an African snack to try called chin chin. It tasted like a biscuit. We also learnt about the weather, the river Nile, schools and different types of wildlife that live in Africa.

Year 2 visit to Eltham Park meadow and pond 2019
Year 2 went on a morning field trips to Eltham Park meadow and pond. We followed a map and drew landmarks and objects onto our map. We had to invent a key for our map.
Reception Farm Trip 2019
We visited Kent Life farm. We had the best day! We loved looking at all the animals and riding on the train.
We imagined that we were the apostles receiving the Holy Spirity at the very first Pentecost. We created our own Pentecost dance.
During our local area study of Eltham we visited Eltham Palace and learnt about its historical significance
Ancient Greek Day Year 5
To consolidate our unit on Ancient Greece, we invited both classes to come dressed in an Ancient Greek costume. We had a St Mary's Ancient Olympic morning, followed by a theatre company who took us on a time travelling adventure back to Ancient Greece. We learnt so much about Ancient Greek culture and the legacy it left for modern times.
Anzac Day Cooking Year 5
To celebrate Anzac Day on the 25th of April, the Year 5's made a traditional biscuit, the Anzac biscuit. Anzac stands for Australaian New Zealand Army Corps, and Anzac biscuits were created by the soldiers mixing together the supplies they were given while on the battlefield.
Year 5 Samba
Year 5 have developed their musical abilities thanks to the amazing talents of Michael and Miss Wyld during Samba sessions. Each child had the opportunity to try new instruments, explore new rhythms and showcase their skills in an assembly to their families.
PICASSO ART PROJECT
We studied the artist Picasso and created our own piece of art based on the works of Picasso. Mrs Wood was came into class to complete this work with us. Thank you Mrs Wood.
Reception Maths 2019
We are working hard learning all about number, shape, space and measure during our daily maths lessons.
Reception Palm Sunday 2019
Reception learnt all about Palm Sunday. We all made palm leaves and then went in to the playground to role play Jesus arriving into Jerusalem.
On December 5th and 6th the children from the Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes treated us all to a wonderful performance of the Nativity.
Church Visit 2019
We went for a visit to Christ Church. Fr. John made us feel very welcome. We said a special prayer and looked around at the church.
Spring Term in Year 6
This spring term has been very busy in year 6. We have used the VR headsets; visited the Houses of Parliament; been on our school journey; worked alongside St Thomas More Primary at Stations of the Cross; and begun to design, build and mod rock our own gadget designs to work alongside our class book Stormbreaker.
Autumn Term in Year 6
This Autumn term has been very busy for year 6. We have visited the Almshouses to ask questions about our WW2 topic; we created interpretations of what justice means for our RE topic; we dressed as evacuees for our trip to Kent Life; presented on a topic during WW2 of our choice; and made a wartime cake in the kitchen!
We have a weekly PE lesson with Mr McGrath and he teaches us new skills. We love it!
We learnt about how we can help birds in the winter. We made bird feeders and hung them in our Nature Area and around the school.
We visited the life bus to learn about ourselves. We talked about our organs, did some exercise and talked about how to keep healthy.
People Who Help Us
As part of this topic we have learnt about: safety, transport, jobs and how to look after ourselves. We have been visited by lots of different people who help us like nurses, the police and even the fire brigade!
We used the new VR headsets to look at an african jungle. The children were able to use what they saw to write and make jungle habitats.
RE in Nursery
Our topic's so far have been: God's World, God's Family and Getting to know Jesus. Have a look at all of the fun we've had learning about this.
This week we were visited by the Life Bus. We learnt about the different parts of our bodies and how to keep them healthy through the things we eat and drink. We also learnt about how to look after ourselves by brushing our teeth and washing our hands.
As part of our feelings topic we learnt about our own and other's feelings and how to recognise these. We thought about how we can control how we act towards others when we are feeling a certain way or how we help people to feel happy. We read the story 'The Good Mood Box' and created our own good mood boxes filled iwth items that would help us to feel happy when we are sad.
As part of our sesnes topic we have explored many different sights, smells and sounds. We looked at a different sense each week and thought about how our senses help us to make sense of the world around us. Each week we went on a smell/sound/touch walk and explored the Nursery and school environment.
In the Nursery we have been learning about seasons. We have observed how the trees and weather has changed and explored lots of materials from nature.
Year 3 children have been baking and using their maths skills to explore recipe quantities. It was lots of fun!
Year 5 Remembrance Artwork
We reflected on the Centenary of World War I and took part in a project to represent our feelings about it.
We made Christmas biscuits in the school kitchen. We enjoyed mixing all the ingredients in a bowl and sprinkling the topping the most.
Reception Lollipop man visit 2018
Our school Lollipop man visited our school. He told us all about how he helps to keep us safe when crossing the roads near school.
Reception nurse visit 2018
A nurse came to visit our classroom. She taught us about how she would help us if we ever needed to go to a hospital. She showed us lots of things she might use to make us feel better.
Reception PE 2018
We have PE lessons on a Thursday. We love to learn the new skills Mr McGrath teaches us each week.
Reception Fire Station Visit
Reception went on a trip to visit the Fire Station. The children got to go on the fire engine, spray the hose and even try on their uniform. The firefighters commented on how well behaved the chldren were too! Well done Reception.
Mark, the Policeman came for a visit and talked to us about stranger danger and staying safe.

Reception went to the Nature Area in the Summer term to look for signs of living and non-living.

Reception used the Nature Area to make symmetrical patterns with the natural resources. It was so much fun!

Fr. John invited the gardenong club to visit the Church garden to look at the compost. We had a fantastic time and it inspired us to work on our gardening skills back in school.

Reception Church visit class A 2018
We went to visit Christ Church. Fr. John made us feel very welcome. We all said a special prayer and looked around the church.

We have been learning all about the Church this term. We blessed ourselves entering the Church with Holy Water. Fr John showed us the Tabernacle. We looked at the font and the stained glass windows. We drew our favourite image. We also lit some incense and watched the smoke go up to Heaven with our prayers.
Reception Farm Visit Class B 2018
We visited Kent Life farm to learn about farm animals. We saw many animals, including pigs, sheep, horses, owls and many more. We had fun exploring the farm.
Reception Farm Trip Class A 2018
We visited Kent Life farm. We had the best day! We loved looking at all the animals and riding on the train.
Reception Science Day
We had a great day in Reception experimenting to see how we can make things change. We made our own butter, mixed colours and tried to see what liquids would change our gummy bears. We also learnt about a scientist called Mae Jeminson and became inventors ourselves.
Reception - ICT 2018
We love to visit our school ICT suite. We are learning to log on to the computer and use a mouse and keyboard. It is so much fun!
As part of our RE topic we have been learning about New Life. We have thought about how Jesus was given new life at Easter and how we see new life all around us.
In the Nursery we have been celebrating Easter through learning about the Easter story and making lots of Easter arts and crafts as well as some Easter cooking! We enjoyed the Easter egg hunt at the end of term too!
As part of our Palm Sunday celebrations Father John visited the Nursery and read us the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem. We then celebrated this by doing our own palm procession with palm leaves outside singing Hosanna.
Year 5 Science Day
Year 5 enjoyed Science day with a workshop all about aerodynamics and how planes stay in the air! We had a chance to make our own paper aeroplanes to see how far they could fly.
Year 5 Greek Assembly
Year 5 did an assembly showing their parents everything they had been learning in the Spring Term.
We had a lovely time using the kitchen to create lots of tasty Greek food. We ate our feast while listening to traditional Greek music.

Reception Science Day March 2018
We all got the exciting opportunity to be scientists today. We learnt about the water cycle, made our own clouds and even made it rain in a jar. Special scientists came in to give workshops and we made our own slime. It was a great day.
Y5 were fortunate enough to be taught how to ride on the road safely by the cycling proficiency team. They absolutely loved it and had so much fun!
Reception Palm Sunday
Reception had fun learning all about Palm Sunday this week. We all made our own palm leaves. Then, we role-played Jesus arriving into Jerusalem.
During our growing topic we first thought about how we grow and change from babies and how animals grow and change as well. Then we went on to learning about what plants need to grow and planted our own seeds. We also drew pictures of plants and experimented with seeds and soil.
We learnt all about what keeps us healthy including: Getting lots of sleep, drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit and vegetables, keeping clean and exercising. We explored these foods, took part in different exercises and made our own fruit salads!
In the Nursery we have loved learning in the snow! We were able to talk about the texture, count our footprint, make marks and even built a snowman! Although it was cold it was so much fun!
As part of Science day we carried out a range of experiments. We created 'dancing raisins', an erupting volcano and our own lava lamp! We talked about why we thought things happened and made predictions about what we thought might happen next.
Chinese New Year
We learnt about Chinese New Year and carried out activities based around this.
P.E. with Mr McGrath
We are working hard to improve our balance, speed and overall athletic ability each week. We learn new manoeuvres and we have lots of fun getting active.
Reception Life Bus 2018
YR learnt about themselves on the Life Bus. We talked about our organs and then tried some exercises. For us to be healthy we need to eat healthy food and exercise.
Year 5 British Museum Trip
Year 5 had a lovely day out to the British Museum. We spent some time exploring the galleries dedicated to the ancient Greeks, and had fun finding the different gods and myth stories that were depicted on the pots. We had an interesting workshop about how the Greeks created their stories and showed through art.
Class G visited the Life Bus Spring 2018
We have been learning about our amazing bodies in class and found out more about our major organs and how to look after them on the Life Bus
The nursery children visited the Life Bus this week. We learnt about how to look after ourselves and keep ourselves clean. We learnt about how to stay healthy and looked at different parts of our body and what they do.
People who help us
As part of our new topic we have been learning about people who help us. We changed our role play area into a hospital, fire station and a police station. We thought about how people who help us keep us safe and about how we could help to keep ourselves safe. We completed risk assessments of our inside, outside and nature area. We created vehicles that people who help us use to travel in as well as linking this topic to every area of our learning.
Christmas and the Nativity
We have had lots of fun in the nursery in the lead up to Christmas we have been wrapping presents, enjoying our Christmas party and turned our role play area into a Nativity scene.
Our New Grass!
The nursery were very lucky to have the PA fund some new artificial grass for our outside area. We have loved watching it being installed and can't wait to have lots of fun on it!
Y6 enjoyed a wonderful visit to Margaret McMillan House in Wrotham. The children enjoyed a week of outdoor activities. Great fun was had by all.
Baptism at Christchurch
Our topic in RE is about Families and Celebrations. We went to Christchurch and Father John told us all about Baptism. Baby Mary received a candle and a white garment.
Maths in Reception
We are working hard learning all about numbers and shapes, using Numicon and discovering all about Maths.
Cooking in Reception
We are very lucky to have a new kitchen installed in St Mary's. For our first time baking, we decided to work together to make some delicious biscuits.
Christmas 2017 in Reception
We had a lovely festive time in Reception. We had our Nativity play, Christmas disco, Christmas dinner, our class parties and Fr John came in to bless our crib figures.
Year 5 Trip to the Planetarium
Year 5 enjoyed a lovely trip to the Royal Observatory and Planetarium to enhance their science knowledge about Space, which is our current topic. The had a great time, learning some fascinating facts while we were there. We had lots of compliments from members of the public and the staff at the museum about the impeccable behaviour of the children, so well done to them!
This half term year 5 have been taking part in Liturgical Dance. We have reflected on a piece of music and created dances to interpret the message that the music gives.
So far this year we have done two cooking sessions in year 5. For our first lesson we made banana bread, and our second session was linked to our R.E. topic of Judaism and Passover and we made unleavened bread. The children have really enjoyed using the new kitchen and have learnt new skills too!

Class H Jon Leigh Visit 2017
Jon Leigh came into our classroom to talk to us about Jewish synagogues and what Jewish people wear when they go to a synagogue. He showed us photos of the synagogue he goes to. We even sang a song in Hebrew!
Class G and H Stone Age Day 2017
We had a Stone Age visitor in Year 3. He told us about our ancestors and how clever they were. We learned how they survived in the Stone Age - before people could write, before they could use metal and way before technology! We enjoyed imagining how they would have hunted, too.
Class H Science 2017
We have been exploring magnets in Science. We investigated how many paper clips different types of magnets can hold in order to assess the strength of each magnet!
Class H Mass 2017
Class H visited the convent to take part in their class mass. All the children were involved and many parents came along, making it extra special. Well done to all the children.
Class G's Rock Buns 2017
Class G baked rock buns in the fabulous new school kitchen! We hoped they would look like rocks, not taste like them! We were very pleased with the results.

The Environmental Centre
As part of our Autumn topic we visited the Environmental Centre. We looked at how the world around us is changing thinking about the weather, leaves and the trees. We met looked at lots of animals and hid pine cones like squirrels! We walked along the fairy toadstools to the magical treehouse and got very muddy!
Visitors to our nursery
We have had lots of visitors to our nursery this term. During book week we were visited by lots of famous authors and illustrators. We have also had visits from the police and a local dentist to talk to us about how to keep ourselves safe as well as keeping our teeth and mouths healthy.
As part of our topic in RE 'God's World' we visited our nature area and looked at all of the beautiful things in God's world. We thought about how we have to look after the world that God has given us and picked up some litter that had been dropped around the school. We also visited the nature area as part of our Autumn topic and collected materials to make into collages as well as collecting a certain number for materials for our number hunt.
Construction in Nursery
This term we have been thinking about our building skills from designing a stable to a cinema the children have chosen a design, planned this on paper and then built this. The introduction of our new gravel pit has also helped the children to build upon these construction skills.
Cooking in the Nursery
As part of our learning about the Rainbow Fish we baked our own fish biscuits. We used the school's new kitchen to cook these and thought about how to measure and mix ingredients as well as decorating these to represent our own shiny scales - what makes us special.
A day in our Nursery
Everyday in Nursery is always different. We are always looking for learning in all that we do, as well as having fun along the way! We enjoy a range of activities and working together with our friends to solve any challenges we come up against!
Class B Post office trip
Class B walked to Eltham Post Office to buy stamps for our letters which we wrote for our Mums and Dads. We posted our letters in a post box.
Class C and D visited the Convent. A Convent is a special place where nuns love. We lit a candle and sat quietly in the chapel. We prayed and sang songs. We enjoyed our special time in the Convent.
Book Week 2017
During Book Week we had lots of fun. We enjoyed working with authors and illustrators, as well as listening to story tellers. We used drama to explore different characters in books then used this to help us retell stories. We became authors and even made our own books. At the end of the week we particularly enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters. Look at all the fun we had!
Police visit Reception
The Police came to visit Reception. He talked about stranger danger and showed us some of his equipment.
Fire Engine visits Reception
As part of our topic, People who help us in the community, Reception had a visit from the fire brigade.
Year 4 visited Kent Life and took a journey back to Roman Times. We met a Centurion, a Celt, a Druid and even Boudicca herself! The children made leather amulets, trained as soldiers and learnt all about life at the time.
Year 4 had great fun meeting authors, learning how to draw our own characters during an illustration workshop and dressing up as our favourite book characters!
The theme of our Mass was Baptism. During Mass, we renewed our Baptismal Promises and sang beautiful hymns that reminded us that we are part of the Christian family, called by God who loves us.
As part of our study of Rocks and Soils, we visited the Environmental Centre where we became Dirt Detectives! We looked carefully at different types of soil and learned how it is created. Later on we used it to paint!
Reception - We love Autumn
We have been looking for signs of Autumn. We visited the Nature Area to find leaves, conkers, sticks and pine cones.
Year 3 Mass
Year 3 were joined by friends and family for a mass in the convent with Father John.
Reception school nurse visit
The school nurse visited our classroom. We talked about why it is important to wash our hands.
MUSIC CONCERT July 2017
Many of our young musicians performed after school showing off their musical talents.
Reception Farm 2017
We visited Kent Life Farm. We loved seeing all the animals and riding on the tractor.
Reception French Day
We took part in French Day. We came to school dressed in colours from the French flag. We learnt some French words and tasted some French food.
Just before half term we had French Day. We dressed in red, white and blue. We tried some French food, read French books, found out facts about France, played boule and did all sorts of French activities. We had a GREAT day!!
Y4 French Pen Pal Visit
We were very lucky in Y4 when our French Pen Pals came to visit us for the day.
Reception Easter egg hunt
We took part in an Easter egg hunt in our outside area. We had so much fun looking for eggs. Thank you Easter Bunny!
We have been visiting the ICT suite to learn how to log on to the computer, use the mouse and keyboard.
Trip to the Church
Reception visited the Church. We learnt about how to genuflect, looked at different parts of the alter and sent some prayers up to heaven.
We loved our visit from the Bhangra dancers. We had great fun learning some new steps!
We really enjoyed learning all about Australia. We even learned how to play the didgeridoo!
St Thomas More
Ten Y5 students visited St Thomas More Secondary School where they enjoyed a tour of the school and were able to participate in a Y10 RE lesson.
Y5 participated in a live science lesson with the BBC. The lesson was all about how we taste food. Our results showed that in Class 5L 50% of the class were Tasters, 37.5% were Supertasters and 12.5% were Non-tasters.
Inside the Classroom
Learning together is great! We enjoy helping each other and sharing ideas about what we have learnt.
'Four by Four' Bhangra Group from Gravesend entertained us with the folk dance from the Punjab in Northern India. We practised some bhangra dance routines and enjoyed the sound of the dhol - a double-sided barrel drum.
Year 4 were given first aid training. They learnt how to stop a nosebleed by applying pressure. Place someone in the recovery position and stop bleeding from a limb. It was a fun and informative learning experience.
As part of our preparation for Crowning of Our Lady Year 4 created a series of reflective dance moved linked to 'Mary did you know?' For anyone who missed it, join us at the crowning in May to see some examples of their lovely routines!
As our introduction to the Ancient Maya's, Year 4 held a Maya day. Dressing as a Maya we spent the day in the hall learning about their lifestyle, inventions and beliefs. We were even visited by a real life Maya warrior named Big Nose!
Reception Bhangra Dancing 2017
The Bhangra dancers visited our school to teach us some traditional dance moves.
YR P.E. with Mr McGrath 2017
We worked with Mr McGrath to travel with confidence and skill around, under, over and through balancing and climbing equipment.
Roniyah's mum came in to speak to us about Ghana in Africa. We learnt about the national flag and famous landmarks, what type of clothing and food are popular and much more.
The Life Bus visited our school. We went on the bus to learn about the topic 'All About Me'. We learnt all about our body and how to keep healthy.
We had a visitor come in and talk to us about Road Safety. We learnt about how to keep safe on the roads, when to hold hands and when to wear bright colours.
Reception Christmas Activities
The children in Reception had lots of fun over the Christmas period. We danced at the disco, ate yummy food at our party and wore Christmas jumpers.

Y5 Girls Football Competition
On January 10th, we travelled to Meridian Sports Club in Charlton to participate in our first football competition. We played with great skill and enthusiasm against many other schools in the Greenwich borough. It was a valuable learning experience and we look forward to more competitions. Well done girls; you were fantastic!
The Museum of Childhood
In History lessons we have been learning about toys from the past. We enjoyed looking and playing with the toys at the museum.

Class M have been making some of their own WW2 propaganda this afternoon. We talked about the purpose of the propaganda they were making and why it was important.

Class K Netball
We have been learning the skills of netball in outdoor P.E. this term, and we played a class tournament with house colour teams against each other. Class K have shown a great improvement in their invasion game skills and are enjoying playing the matches.
Nursery Trip Autumn Leaves
The Nursery children went on a lovely trip to the Environmental Centre. We looked carefully for signs of Autumn time. We especially enjoyed collecting leaves to make our Autumn crowns. Look at all the fun we had.
The school were very lucky to enjoy a visitor who came in to teach us about the Hindu religion. Year 5 were very interested and learnt a lot about the beliefs and traditions of Hinduism.
Class K Mass 15.11.16
Class K celebrated their class mass with the theme of Remembrance and Peace. Everybody contributed and there were some very thoughtful prayers written by members of the class. It was a lovely time of reflection.
On Friday, Armistice Day, Class M were very fortunate to visit the Alms Houses in Eltham. We had already created some questions we wanted to ask the residents and thoroughly enjoyed listening to their stories and looking at their memorabilia.
Year 6 have been practising for the Indoor Athletics. The competition takes place on December 6th and involves 10 schools from Greenwich. St Mary's have some talented athletes and are hoping to have a successful day!
After School Activities at St Mary's
Football Clubs for Year 6 Boys and for Girls in KS2 are held at Eltham Park South each Monday. After school clubs which take place on site include Gymnastics, Judo, Netball, Basketball, Irish Dancing and Street Dance!

Year 4 Learning

Year 4 Roman Day
On the October 12th Year 4 was taken back in time to Ancient Rome. We spent the day dressed as Romans, learning about many aspects of Roman life. The children were trained as Roman soldiers and the tortoise shell skills were put to the test when they came under attack from their heavily armed teachers!
Class L Mass
Everyone had a part to play in the Class L Mass today. As the Year of Mercy is drawing to a close, the children wanted the theme of the Mass to be mercy. For the Offertory, all the children made a Garden of Mercy with their flowers of forgiveness. They also made a Mercy Tree where they hung their leaves with petitions of mercy. These were signs that their aim was to be merciful like the Father.
Jewish Visitor 2016
Jon Leigh talked to Reception about Judaism. We enjoyed learning about the Jewish faith.
Nurse's Visit 2016
The school nurse visited Reception to talk about how important it is to wash our hands.
We enjoyed our visit to the Kent Life museum which helped with our history topic. We saw lots of exciting homes and houses from the past and had a bumpy ride on the tractor.
Science and learning about life cycles
We watched our tiny caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies. Then we let them fly away and enjoy God's wonderful world!
We really enjoyed our RE week and all the activities that helped us learn more about our faith.
Reception at the Farm
The reception children visited the farm and met lots of interesting animals.
The Queen's 90th Birthday
Today we celebrated the Queen's 90th Birthday! We enjoyed designing the Queen a birthday outfit as well as a picnic and some traditional English games!
Today Class M said goodbye to Scarlett as she is moving to Spain! We will miss Scarlett greatly but wish her well on her Spanish journey.
SATS ARE OVER!
Today Year 6 celebrated the end of SATS week! They enjoyed a picnic in the sun and ate ice creams whilst watching The Jungle Book to learn the story behind their end of year production. They all worked incredibly hard this week and should be proud of what they have achieved.

Y1 Baptism at Christchurch
Y1 visited Christchurch to talk about Baptism. We re-enacted a Baptism, the baby was called Mary.
In year 6, we have been reading Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. The protagonist, Alex Rider, becomes an amateur spy and is given special gadgets to help him on his mission. We designed our own gadgets and wrote persuasive speeches to convince Dragon's Den to invest! We then had great fun building, mod rocking and decorating our gadgets. We had all sorts of designs from scanner glasses, exploding peppermints and a pen that broke through walls!
Displays around the school

Chinese New Year 2016

Father John visits Nursery
We love learning all about Jesus. We know that Jesus went to a wedding where he did something very special. Jesus turned water in to wine. This is called a miracle. Fr John came in to Nursery to teach us all about weddings.

Visit to Christchurch
We have been learning about Families and Celebrations. We went to Christchurch and Father John told us all about baptism and what it means to belong to God's Family.
The Museum of Childhood
As part of our History topic 'Old and New Toys' we visited The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green where we looked at and played with toys from the past. We all had a great time!
Reception Christmas Panto
We enjoyed the Jack and the Beanstalk Panto offered by a local theatre group.
We loved visiting the Convent. It was so calm and peaceful in the chapel and sister Penny and sister Chris made us feel very welcome there. We prayed together and sang special hymns. We are looking forward to vising the Convent again!
We had so much fun during Art Week! Thank you to Oliwia's mum who showed us some clever sketching techniques. Look at the prize winners for the best illustration, painting, art of the week and the mask.
Year 6 have had great fun learning Samba with Michael and thoroughly enjoyed performing to the parents!
Class M visited the Alms Houses where we asked the ladies and gentlemen lots of questions about their experiences during the war! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to their stories and looking at the memorabilia they had.
Police Visit Class G
Police: The Police visited us this term. They talked to us about keeping safe and how they can help us.
Environmental Centre Class G
Environmental Centre: We spent a lovely day at the Environmental Centre. We studied different types of soil and tried orienteering.
Baptism Class G
Baptism: We visited Father John at our parish church. We took our baptismal candles and he lit them from the Paschal candle. We renewed our baptismal promises after we smelled oil of chrism and catachumens. It reminded us that we become part of the Christian family at our baptism.
Year 3 Police visit
The police came in to talk about their role in looking after our belongings and living by the law. Our children loved hearing about their jobs and trying on parts of their uniform.
Class B at Sports Day!
We had a great time at Sports Day- running, jumping, balancing, throwing and more!
We went on a mini trip to the park to practise for sports day, to have a picnic and to play on the equipment!
All week we have been painting, colouring, creating, exploring and making art work. Take a look at some of the things we have made...
We have a new waterwall in our outside area. We have been experimenting with the water, pouring, measuring, storing, catching and spilling lots of it!
Reception have enjoyed using the Computer suite in the last few months. We can log on, use some software and log off by ourselves!
Year 3 helped Arty Party create the tomb of a mummy! We took turns to build the tomb, paper mache it and paint it.
Class H started their Death Mask paintings. We used a template to help us with the outline before sketching in the main detail. We finished off the day by painting the gold parts with acrylic paints.
Godstone Farm 2015
We had a wonderful two days visiting Godstone Farm with both our morning and afternoon children. Have a look through the photos to see some of the great things we saw at the farm.
Symmetry in Reception

We have been using the class camera, tuff-cams and the ipads to take our own pictures. Here is a small sample of the hundreds we have taken!
We have new residents in Class B... tadpoles! They started off as a big lump of frog spawn, but now some have begun to hatch! We are watching them closely, learning about all the changes. Some of the tadpoles have now grown back legs! We are patiently awaiting their front legs when they will become froglets! Check back to see their progress.
St George's Day
On the 23rd of April it was St George's Day. We listened to stories about knights and dragons, we made red roses and we watched videos of people celebrating in different ways around the country.
Easter Egg Hunt!
On the last day of term we had an Easter Egg Hunt around our outside area. Some of us found more than others, but we shared and made sure everyone had enough.
Reception have been learning all about Superheroes through the book 'Eliot the Midnight Superhero'. Today we dressed up as our favourite characters and took part in a series of super challenges- we had to rescue frozen lego people, use cubes to make a model of ourselves, design some super accessories, complete a set of obstacles outside and practise pulling off the best superhero pose!+
Our outside area is crucial to extend our learning. We can explore and investigate on a larger scale, developing or skills no matter what the weather!
St David's Day
Miss Griffiths taught us about St David's Day. We tried Welsh cakes, drew daffodils and learnt how to say a few things in Welsh!
In Class B we have a very popular Construction carpet and a dedicated lego table! In these spaces we work on motor skills, team-work, planning, evaluating, spatial awareness, coordination and communication skills. It's not just play!
Chinese New Year
Class B enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. We made lanterns and dragons, Marcus taught us Chinese writing and we even dressed up as a Chinese lion!
PE in Reception
In PE we have been learning to extend our skills and face our fears by trying to climb a bit further and jump a bit higher! We definitely have some gymnasts in the making!

Class B Fireworks and Paint splats!
We have been learning about Bonfire Night and fireworks. We had fun splatting paint to make firework explosions!
Class B visit the Fire Station!
Class B walked to Eltham Fire Station on Monday as part of our People Who Help Us topic! We had a great time trying to use the hose, sitting inside the Fire Engine and watching the firefighters slide down the pole! Thank you to Eltham Fire Station for welcoming us!

In Year 3 we have started taking part in Liturgical Dance. So far we have learnt that Liturgical Dance is a form of prayer where we can express our feelings through songs and movement.
As part of our DT topic we have designed some fun and fruity salads! We wrote instructions, listed our ingredients and labelled our diagrams in prepartion. We then prepared and made these using a range of fruit and equipment. We then evaluated our designs thinking about what went well and how we could improve this if we were to do it again.
We had a great time in September at the Environment Centre. We were very lucky with the weather!
Titanic Art Class L
While we were learning about the Titanic disaster, we tried to capture the moment in oil pastels. Look at the colours we used. What do they make you feel?
We have been lucky enough to visit Christ Church to help us with our RE work. Father John also came to St Mary's to talk to us about Benediction.
Year 4 really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn parts for a traditional African dance.
Nursery trip to the Environment Centre

Class A Visit the Fire Station!
Class A visited Eltham Fire Station on Armistice Day this year! We found out all about the Fire Station, what the Fire Fighters do even got to use the hose! At 11am we stood outside the Station with the Fire Fighters to remember Armistice Day with a two minutes' silence. Many thanks to Eltham Fire Station for welcoming us and showing us such a fantastic time!
Class E and F - The Great Fire of London
Class E and F enjoyed an exciting and interactive drama session led by The Freshwater Theatre Company.
Class A visit to Christchurch!
Class A visited Fr. John at Christchurch on Tuesday. We heard all about the tabernacle and the stories behind the stain glass windows. Some of us even found the image of the Lamb of God behind the altar! Be sure to ask us all about our day!
YEAR 3 FIRST HOLY COMMUNION MASS 2014
The children celebrated their First Holy Communion by attending a mass at Christ Church on Wednesday 9th July. On arriving back in school they sat down to a celebratory snack.
Year 4 Presentation- Our Trip to the Maritime Museum
Classes I and J enjoyed designing their own PowerPoint slides about our trip to the Maritime Museum. They especially enjoyed presenting their presentation to their parents.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt 2014
One of our favourite stories is We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We were very lucky to be able to visit the Environment Centre to go on our very own bear hunt! We got to walk through the long grass, splash through the river, squelch through the mud, walk through the forest and explore the cave. Take a look at what we found!
We had a lovely time visiting Godstone Farm. Look at all the great things we saw!
Arty Party visited us in June and made ancient Egyptian canopic jars with us. There are four different heads on the jars, can you spot them? Jackal, human, falcon, baboon.

Year 6 enjoyed learning all about the rainforest...and experiencing a tropical thunderstorm all of our own!
In the summer term we surveyed the traffic on Westmount Road and Glenure Road. We used our data to answer questions about different types of roads. We put our information onto graphs.
Class A visited the farm in May! We fed, petted and met farm animals, rodents and reptiles! Many thanks to the helpful staff at Ravensbourne who treated us to such a jam packed day of laughing and learning and also to the Mums who kindly vounteered to help keep us safe on our trip. Skipping to Success!
Class A were skipping sensations at our skipathon this year. We followed Mr. McGrath's instructions and were very successful in our efforts! We have been raising money for CAFOD. Thank you to our generous sponsors! We think you'll see we deserved it!
Spring has Sprung!
In Reception we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk. We decided to grow our own beanstalks! We made fluffy cotton wool beds for our beans and are making sure thy have enough water and sunshine to help them grow!

Year 5 Book Week
Year 5 enjoyed meeting some authors during Book Week. We were inspired to write and illustrate our own books.
Book Week 2013
The children in Classes E and F learned the story of The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. We then drew story maps and retold the story in our own words. We also made beautiful rainbow fish of our own to put on our Rainbow Fish display board in the Infant Corridor.

Book Week in Nursery 2013
We have had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week. We have enjoyed listening to all the authors and poets who have visited us: Alan Durant, Valerie Bloom and Eileen Browne. They read us some of their great stories and taught us some poems. Take a look at all the fun we've had! We have been reading the story 'The Rainbow Fish' and enjoyed carefully finger painting our very own Rainbow Fish. Look at the bright colours we used.
God's Wonderful World
In Reception we have been learning all about God's world. We have been looking at all of the beautiful things in the world. We went on a walk to look for lots of beautiful things. We saw flowers, trees and spiders. We even saw a beautiful spider web. We have been thinking about how much God loves us and that we are all part of God's beautiful world.
Year 5 Book Week
Class K met some authors during Book Week. We also wrote and illustrated our own books.

Reception have been having a wonderful Book Week so far! We have met authors and illustrators and even made our own books! We cannot wait to dress up as our favourite characters for the Fancy Dress Parade!

Reception Sports Day Fun!
We all tried our very hardest in Sports Day! It was great fun! A huge thank you to all the parents who cheered us all along! We hope you enjoyed it! Back at school we made rosettes for our friends to say, 'Well done'. We took them home as a souvenir.
Class A visited Christchurch!
Fr. John welcomed Reception to Christchurch on Monday. We got to see lots of special things in the church, like the Tabernacle, stain glass windows and the Baptismal Font! We want to say a big thank you to Fr. John and Erin's Mum who kindly came with us.
Class B Visit to Christ Church
Class B enjoyed walking to Christ Church in the sunshine. We were met by Father John. Father John showed us the Tabernacle and we practised genuflecting. We also looked closely at the stained glass windows and Baptismal Font. We want to say a huge thank you to Father John and the parents who helped us.
Our Trip to the Farm!
Class A went on a trip to Woodlands farm in June. We were guided around the farm by Hannah and Alison, got to go on a scavenger hunt in the beautiful gardens and were lucky enough to go pond dipping before coming home tired and happy. We'd like to say a big Thank You to the Mummies who came along and helped and to all who volunteered. Why not ask us what our favourite part of the day was?
Eco club have been busy pulling up our radishes. We washed them and took them home to eat. We think they are delicious!
Class B visit Woodlands Farm!
We had a fabulous time at the farm last week! We enjoyed seeing the animals, stroking a chicken and guinea pig and our exciting scavenger hunt! We also had great fun pond dipping! We even discovered the first newt tadpole the farm had seen this year!

In Literacy, we studied the poem by Alfred Noyes called The Highwayman. After lots of hard work in our writing, we practised our presentation of the verses. We recorded each verse in pairs and we are going to add our artwork to these verses make a movie. Can you tell which verse these pictures represent?

Class L Greek Day
We had a wonderful day being Ancient Greeks today! We even tried some typical Greek food. Do you think we look authentic?

Having learned about the Ancient Greeks, we put some of what we had learned into practice! We dressed in Chitons (old sheets!) and ate goats'cheese with pitta bread and olives.

A theatre company visited the school to teach the children Elizabethan theatre and the work of William Shakespeare.

We investigated how long we could make a piece of A4 paper. It had to be a continuous piece! We used trundlewheels to measure our attempts.

We had a 'mathstastic' time when the Happy Puzzle Company visited us! We had such fun solving the different puzzles.
Reception get arty with Arty Party!
We had great fun in Reception when Arty Party came to visit. We made pond life mosaics for our outdoor area. We have been learning all about ponds and the creatures that live in and around them.
Today we focused on our raised bed in the grassy area. It was absolutely full of weeds when we started. With hard work and team spirit, we finally cleared it and now it's ready for us to plant some seed! Watch this space.
Eco Club get busy!
We have been really busy today preparing the butterfly garden for the summer. It is really weedy, so we have been turning over the soil and pulling out the weeds from the roots. We enjoyed taking our own photographs too.
Our Maths robots!
We have been learning our Maths with our class robots. We have finding as many different ways as we can to make 5. Some of us have been writing clever number sentences with our robots too! We are also taking away! Our robots love learning Maths with us.
We've had a very big visitor...
A Giant has been visiting our outdoor area and we have been working hard to try and track him down! Drawing maps, searching high and low and retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk are just a few of the things we have been doing to try and track him down. Our Reception classes are doing a great job so far in their Giant hunt, have they told you all about it at home?
Maths Week is off to a great start in Reception!
Reception have been kicking off Maths week in style. We had a great time parading our maths hats and doing clever maths work in class. Well done to everybody for your amazing Maths hats. We are all winners in Reception!

The New 2013 Eco Club at St Mary's
Today was our first Eco Club meeting and we're full of enthusiasm. We made some posters and walked round the school to see what needed doing. We have a plan!
In Reception we have been reading Stick Man! We have had a great time joining in with the story, making our very own stick men and we even turned our role play area into Stick Man's family tree! We also wrote what Stick Man might say, using speech bubbles. We are so glad that Stick Man got back to his family tree with his Stick Lady Love and his Stick children three!
Kung Hei Fat Choi!
We have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have made Chinese lanterns and New Year cards. We heard the story and even made snakes. Happy year of the snake!
We are very excited to have started back at school after an enjoyable Christmas. We have been working hard. We have been looking at The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. We have made our own books called 'How to Build a Snowman'. We have used 3D shapes to make our own 'silly snowmen'. We have also been busy creating our own story boards and telling the story to our friends. We have even been lucky enough to see snow falling in our playground this week!
Santa came to say hello!
We were so lucky in Reception! Santa walked past our classroom! We sang him Jingle Bells and wished him luck for his very busy Christmas! We also had great fun at our Christmas party. We danced, played games, sang songs and ate delicious food. A big thank you to all the parents for your generous food donations!
Christmas is coming!
We have been getting very excited during Advent. We can't wait to celebrate Christmas and have been preparing for Jesus' birthday by thinking of ways we can be extra helpful. We have also enjoyed making Advent wreaths, singing Christmas songs and playing in Santa's workshop. We have been very busy, helpful elves!
In RE we have been laerning all about God's world. We have been thinking about how much God loves us and what we can do to help look after such a beautiful world.

Our Autumn Walk-2012
We had great fun visiting the park looking for signs of autumn. We collected lots of leaves and enjoyed using them in our classroom. We made lots of leaf rubbings and a great autumn collage! We love autumn!
Science Year 5 December 2012 Forces Experiment
During our Science Topic about Forces we carried out several experiments. Look at our photos to see our most recent one. We investigated how far an elastic band would propel a weight if stretched from an increasing distance. We had lots of fun finding out!
Year 5 Autumn 2012 Titanic
We researched and read books about being on the Titanic and what happened during the disaster. We really enjoyed this topic and we created lots of different pieces of writing around it. We also painted wonderful pictures of the ship.

Early in the term we went on a trip to the Environment Centre to work on our orienteering and problem solving skills. Look at what we got up to.
Year 5 Autumn 2012 Street Child
During our Victorian Topic we studied Street Child by Berlie Doherty. Before starting a piece of writing about Jim Jarvis, we tried to act out what the characters were thinking in different scenes. We worked as groups on freeze frames and conscience alleys.

Visiting the Almshouses
Year 6 had the opportunity to visit some local people who remembered living through the Second World War. They were very generous with their time and allowed us to interview them about their experiences, giving us a wonderful insight into life at that time.
The Royal Observatory and Planetarium at Greenwich
As part of our science topic on The Earth in Space, we visited the Observatory and found out lots of information. We were able to interact with the exhibits and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
During Black History Month Nursery enjoyed dancing and story telling with Wise Moves Dance group.
We love Maths
We love learning about Maths! We always try very hard with counting and learning our numbers. We also enjoy learning about shapes. Look at some of our great work so far.
On the 16th November we had a Living History Day when we dressed in World War Two themed outfits. Everyone looked fantastic. Thanks mum.During the day we had to do formal arithmetic and English lessons. Unfortunately the air raid siren went off during the lessons and we had to dive under tables. When another siren wailed out we knew things were very serious and had to make our way with torches down to our underground shelter.Time passed slowly but we passed the time telling stories and singing songs. Later that day we enjoyed a birthday party. We made decorations with recycled materials and danced the afternoon away!
Life is Fun in Year 4
Classes I and J work very hard, however we find that the best way to learn is to enjoy what we do!
H.M.S Belfast and Britain at War
On the 1st of October 2012 we visited Britain at War Museum and later that day we toured H.M.S. Belfast . We had a wonderful time and learnt alot.

Well done to our new Y4 instrumentalists who are doing really well and enjoying learning how to play with the help of our specialist tutors. December has been a busy month as always; the choir participated in the yearly Carolthon at Passey Place to raise money for Bexley Hospice, as well as visiting the residents of Thomas Philpot Almshouses and performing for them. The Infant Nativity was also a great success, well done to everyone who was involved. Our year ends nicely with the Junior Carol Service at Christchurch-a lovely way to celebrate Christmas! Thank you for your continued support and see you next term!

Eco Club Get Creative!
For our olympic challenge we painted our old gym horse today. We have also started painting some pieces of wood we rescued from the skip. We are going to turn them into works of art so watch this space!
Helping the Year Ones
This week in Eco Club we have been preparing the ground outside the Year 1 classrooms so they can plant their sunflowers. We can't wait to see them grow!
This week in Eco Club we have been continuing our huge challenge of weeding the raised beds. We didn't think our vegetables would grow, but we discovered our radishes had! Hooray!!! We washed and ate them...although we discovered that not all of us like radishes!
