Year Six Alms House
Today the children visited the Almshouses in Eltham where they met several residents who had experienced the effects of war first hand. The children had already prepared questions to ask the men and women about what they could remember from the war. These ranged from questions about evacuation to life after the war had ended. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories from the 1940s and had a real insight into the impact war has on a country and its people. As a thank you, the children performed We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn, a famous song from 1939, which resonated with soldiers going off to fight, leaving their families and sweethearts.
